Airport is an important meeting place for development in the region

2012-01-03

Swedavia has surveyed what its passengers and neighbours think about Göteborg Landvetter Airport's work with access and sustainability. A full 92 per cent of respondents believe the airport is important for development in the region, and almost as many – 89 per cent – consider it an important meeting place. The results also show there is great interest in how the airport works with environmental issues.

A new survey of those living near Göteborg Landvetter Airport shows that the airport has significant support in the region. A clear majority – 87 per cent – have a positive view of Göteborg Landvetter Airport, and a full 92 per cent believe the airport is important for development in the region. The great majority – 89 per cent – also consider it an important regional and national meeting place, while 68 per cent believe the airport contributes to greater integration between people and cultures.

At the same time, the survey shows there is strong demand for more information about how the airport works with environmental and climate change issues. Today, only 15 per cent indicate that the airport is good at providing information about the environmental work it carries out.

“It is gratifying that so many people emphasise the importance of the airport, for both residents and businesses in the region. At the same time, we have to be even clearer about how we work to minimise our own environmental impact,” says Olle Sundin, airport director at Göteborg Landvetter Airport.

Swedavia recently decided to meet the target of zero carbon dioxide emissions from its own operations beginning in 2020. Work to reduce carbon dioxide emissions is considered most important by 68 per cent of respondents, followed by work to reduce emissions to water, by 34 per cent.

About the survey
The survey was conducted October 24-November 20, 2011, in the form of telephone interviews with 400 people living in the region. Of those asked, half had flown at least once from Göteborg Landvetter Airport in the past twelve months, while the rest had not.
