McDonald’s and OKQ8 to move into Airport City

2011-11-24

The development of Airport City at Göteborg Landvetter Airport is progressing steadily. An agreement has now been signed with McDonald’s and OKQ8 to provide a combined service facility for motorists in Airport City at the motorway junction.

“Now when another two strong brands want to set up operations here, we can extend Airport City and reach all the way to the motorway that makes the airport accessible in the region. With the planning of the combined facility for McDonald’s and OKQ8, we are raising the level of service in Airport City even higher,” says Davis Bergström, director of property development at Göteborg Landvetter Airport.

Business establishments in Airport City are focused on four areas: shopping/experiences, logistics, offices and hotel/conference facilities. A mix of operations in these areas creates the destination Airport City. With McDonald’s and OKQ8 setting up operations, the shopping/experience component is further strengthened.

McDonald’s is building a restaurant with seating for 130 designed according to its latest concept with subdued colours and modern lines.
“We see Airport City as a very interesting site. The development taking place in the area, with its major logistics hub including the airport, logistics centre and commercial space, provides us with a very solid base for our operations. Combined with a major thoroughfare like route 40, this facility will give us a unique opportunity to reach many guests, which is fully in line with our ambition to increase the number of new openings over the next few years,” says Charlotta Björk, head of construction and new establishments at McDonald’s.

”For us, it means that we are enhancing our offering to motorists in the Gothenburg region. The exciting new development in Airport City will be an important piece of the puzzle in our interface with customers who want to service their cars or have a bite to eat,” says Daniel Slorafoss at OKQ8.

The unique location, combined with the availability of land, makes Airport City at Göteborg Landvetter Airport attractive to companies setting up operations. Airport City has a very strong position in the region, with its proximity to the main artery connecting Gothenburg and Stockholm, its location between the two largest cities in western Sweden and with all the capitals of Europe just a few hours’ flight away.

The Porsche Centre was the first business to set up operations in Airport City in 2009. In November, DB Schenker Logistics will open a 25,000 square metre facility, and negotiations are underway for a hotel to be built adjacent to the airport terminal.
“We see that the location and the availability of land have great appeal to strong brands. The fact that we can now plan for the McDonald’s and OKQ8 facility is further confirmation of this,” Mr Bergström adds.

The plans for McDonald’s and OKQ8 to set up operations are now in a detailed planning phase, and construction of the facility for motorists at the Landvetter junction can start in 2012, if all goes according to plan.
