Göteborg Landvetter is western Sweden’s international airport and Sweden’s second largest airport. By virtue of our location in the heart of the region, we have an important role in its future. A number of global corporations such as Volvo, SKF and AstraZeneca have their head office or other major facilities in the region.
We are an important element of the image of Göteborg (Gothenburg) and the region. Through close collaboration with regional bodies, we are developing our image in order to draw visitors to an attractive, dynamic environment in the middle of Scandinavia.
International business
Two thirds of the employees in western Sweden’s business sector work in a foreign-owned company with international operations. An international business community and globalisation require international accessibility. Air transport is thus a prerequisite for maintaining and increasing the global competitiveness of western Sweden.
Collaboration with regional bodies
In close collaboration with regional bodies, business partners and suppliers − among them Business Region Göteborg, Göteborg & Co and the Western Sweden Chamber of Commerce and Industry, we are expanding the regional role of the airport, making it a high-priority location for investments. We continuously improve our operations in order to adjust in the best possible way to changes in the world around us.
Visitor and event indystry
For many years, Göteborg has relied on its sizeable distributive and transport sector, but one of the fastest growing economic sectors is the visitor and event industry. Today this industry generates about 16,000 full-time jobs in the Göteborg region − jobs that will stay in the region and do not risk being moved abroad. Göteborg’s tourist industry previously had an estimated market of 30 million people, i.e. people who could visit Göteborg and the region relatively easily and cheaply. The expansion of low fare air travel has enlarged that market to 300 million people. Since the turn of the millennium, the number of visitors’ overnight stays in Göteborg has increased by 33 per cent.
Another element of our close regional collaboration
At trade fairs and similar events, we do not market the airport as such, but the destination – Göteborg and western Sweden. One example is Routes, a yearly global trade fair for airlines and airports, where we share a stand with Business Region Göteborg (BRG), Göteborg & co and Göteborg City Airport.
