London: new destination from Malmö Airport

2011-11-03

As of today Ryanair flies from Malmö Airport to one of the Swedish travelling public’s favourite destinations – London. There are flights every day of the week to London Stansted. Earlier this year Ryanair announced three other destinations from Skåne and Malmö Airport.

For several years now Tourism in Skåne, Malmö Tourism and Visit Sweden have been working together to support a long-term marketing strategy designed to attract British visitors to Skåne. The project is now bearing fruit and as of the start of this year, the number of visitors from Britain has increased by about 11 %. Now with the start of Ryanair direct flights to Malmö and Skåne, the number of visitors will hopefully increase still further.
“It is very gratifying that Ryanair is starting to fly direct to the destination we have been working so long to market together with Visit Sweden and Malmö Tourism,” says Pia Jönsson Rajgård, MD of Tourism in Skåne. “Now we’re ready to take the next step towards becoming a firm destination for British travellers.”
“In February, Malmö Airport introduced a new pricing strategy for airlines, making it one of the cheapest airports in our catchment area,” says Peter Weinhandl, Airport Director at Malmö Airport. “Since then, Ryanair has introduced four new routes to and from Skåne, which is great for everyone who lives in or wants to travel to Skåne.”

In London, which is one of the world’s most multi-faceted cities, there’s always a lot happening with a rich variety of events and things to see – and next year the city hosts the Summer Olympics. The games are being held from July 27 to August 12 and the Olympic Village will be located in Stratford, north-east of central London.
