Give yourself plenty of time

Due to the increase in safety measures at Swedish airports after the terror attack on 11 September, sharp instruments are not allowed in hand baggage. All such instruments must be placed in the checked-in baggage.

When a sharp instrument is discovered in the hand baggage by a security officer, the passenger can choose between returning to the checking-in counter to check-in the instrument or throwing it away. Passengers cannot leave the instrument with the security officer for collection on their return.

This security restriction is applicable to all sharp instruments, for example scissors, nail files, pocket knives and cork screws.

To minimise security control delays, Swedavia would like to encourage passengers to bear in mind these new routines at the time of packing their suitcases – think before, not after.

Persons with reduced mobility
Swedavia should "take steps to ensure that the needs people with reduced mobility are taken into account in civil aviation". Swedavia was entrusted with this 7th main task on 1 August 2000 by the Swedish government.

The substance of this main task is that Swedavia would improve the conditions for persons with special needs so that they may make use of air travel to a greater extent. This covers both those who are functionally impaired but also those who are temporarily incapacitated. Click here for more information regarding availability of this service at the airport.
