Green approaches shall make up 80 per cent of approaches to Swedavia’s airports by 2012.
We have made considerable progress at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Umeå Airport and Göteborg Landvetter Airport. Other airports will be added over time.
80 per cent of flights in Swedish airspace shall be straight-in flights by 2012
Air Navigation Services is introducing FRAS, short for Free Routes Airspace Sweden, which is the first system of its kind in Europe. It allows airlines to take the shortest route through Swedish airspace with the least environmental impact.
Swedavia’s carbon dioxide emissions shall be cut in half by 2010
Our vehicle drivers are leading the way. Everyone trained in “eco-driving”, driving energy-efficiently, has helped to reduce fuel consumption by close to 20 per cent. In the near future, as many people as possible will be driving environmentally clean vehicles. Using only renewable fuel for heating is another important measure to reduce Swedavia’s carbon footprint from fossil raw materials.
Swedavia’s energy use shall be reduced by 1/3 by 2010
Motion detectors and technology for lights, computers and other equipment that turn off automatically help save energy. We will be even more efficient with weather-controlled indoor climates, daylighting via fibre optic cables and other measures.
By 2012 Swedavia shall use 90 per cent renewable energy and fuel
Many of our buildings are already heated with green district heating, the energy being produced from renewable raw materials. Our electricity shall also be just as green.
The noise impact of Swedavia’s airports shall be limited
In addition to shifting traffic movements from heavily populated areas, Swedavia levies higher take-off charges the more noise and emissions an aircraft produces. For residents in the immediate vicinity, Swedavia has paid tens of millions of Swedish kronor for noise insulation for buildings.
By 2012 run-off water from Swedavia’s airports shall be of good quality in compliance with the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency/EU Water Framework Directive
An important measure is the collecting and recycling of glycol from de-icing aircraft, as is the collecting of chemical residue after firefighting exercises. An effective ice warning system, combined with ploughing and gritting, has largely replaced the use of urea.
At least 50 per cent of passengers shall use public transport to get to Stockholm Arlanda Airport by 2012
There are several ways to achieve this target. Passengers today can get to and from the airport using the high-speed Arlanda Express or Upptåget commuter train as well as a number of long-distance trains and more than ten bus routes. Swedavia’s employees can use the online ride-sharing system to reduce the number of people driving alone.
100 per cent ecotaxis at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, Göteborg Landvetter Airport and Malmö Airport by 2012
To make it easier to choose an environmentally friendly alternative, we have set up a separate queue for ecotaxis at Stockholm-Arlanda.
Swedavia shall move towards zero emissions of fossil carbon dioxide by 2020
Swedavia’s combined environmental efforts shall gradually reduce carbon dioxide emissions from operations – important measures are renewable fuels for vehicles and heating as well as lower energy use. In the long term, Swedavia’s operations shall have zero emissions of carbon dioxide from fossil sources. Until then, we will carbon-offset our emissions.
