From tomorrow, 1 April 2010, the newly established company Swedavia will manage and develop and promote 14 state-owned airports whilst LFV will be responsible for air navigation services. This is a result of the division of the LFV Group.
Since 1947 Luftartsverket’s operations have included both airports as well as air navigation services.
- The division of this organisation allows the respective managements and boards of directors to focus on their core businesses; a necessity at a time when the aviation industry faces great challenges. For the airports, becoming a state-owned company creates better business opportunities and the conditions for a faster decision-making process as well as facilitating cooperation with other parties, says Ingemar Skogö, who has been named as Chairman of the Board of Swedavia.
Nils Gunnar Billinger is Chairman of the LFV Board:
- This division will see the formation of two better, more focused, more efficient and stronger organisations. LFV and Swedavia will continue to play a key role in meeting the needs the business sector has for fast transport and man’s desires for new experiences, says Nils Gunnar Billinger.
Through Swedavia’s 14 airports pass a total of 80 percent of all air travellers in Sweden. Stockholm-Arlanda is the largest airport with almost 16 million passengers in 2009. The air navigation services operate at 36 locations throughout the country and from two control centres situated in Stockholm and Malmö air traffic movements in the upper airspace is managed. Last year the air navigation services handled approximately 640,000 movements in Swedish airspace.
Swedavia’s turnover is expected to be in the region of MSEK 5,000, the number of employees approximately 2,600. The corresponding figures for LFV are MSEK 2,000 and 1,300 employees.
